High Octane Action with Off-Roaders

Over the last two consecutive weekends, Bilsington Priory Estate has played host to two thrilling off-road events, as both the Southern Counties Off-Road Club and the Southern Land Rover Owners Club descended on our bit of Kent countryside for two weekends packed with mud, motors, and more than a few memorable moments.

Tight Lines and Technical Challenges

Known for its challenging terrain and stunning backdrop, the Priory Estate came alive with the roar of 4×4 engines as competitors tackled a dynamic combination of trials on Saturday, and a timed high-precision competition-safari made for serious off-roaders on the Sunday.

Saturday saw members tackling a technical and well-laid-out course. The marshals had set up a series of sections that made full use of the estate’s varied landscape – wooded tracks, steep banks, and deep ruts kept even the most seasoned drivers on their toes. From Series 1 classics to modified Defenders and Discoveries, the diversity of vehicles was matched only by the determination of their drivers.

Unlike regular trials, comp safaris demand vehicles built to the utmost safety and durability – think roll cages, winches, and serious suspension upgrades. The terrain was fast and occasionally unforgiving, but the priority was on maintaining control and finesse, despite the risk that comes with high speed over rough ground.

Southern Land Rover Owners Club

The Southern Land Rover Owners Club took to the tracks the following weekend.. Known for its passionate community and heritage-rich fleet, SLROC brought together Land Rover lovers of all generations…and from across the country, from Hampshire to the Peak District and Yorkshire. Trials were competitive yet friendly, with drivers showcasing their technical knowledge and expertise across various sections that had been altered from the previous weekend to provide fresh challenges.

Behind the Scenes

A huge shout-out goes to the marshals and volunteers who gave their time to set up, guide, and keep everyone safe throughout the two weekends. Marshals worked tirelessly from early morning scrutineering to the evening awards, and huge thanks go to those who set the course and sections up over several days preceding the events.

As the sun set on Sunday evening and the last muddy tyre tracks faded from the field, one thing was clear – SCORC and SLROC together made for an unforgettable off-road weekend. We’re already looking forward to next year!
