Walking in Bluebells at Bilsington Priory

400 acres of ancient woodland
‘We are proud to have 400 acres of ancient woodland on the Bilsington Priory Estate, and each year look forward to spring when the woodland floor becomes a carpet of Bluebells.
These rich, violet blue flowers on their arching stems are a wonderful example of Native English Bluebells, true Hyacinthoides non scripta, and create an unforgettable display of colour.
We can’t thank Libby and her team enough and we have already talked about a date for 2025!’
We think it’s a shame to keep their glory all to ourselves…so we opened the woods recently to the wonderful Pilgrims Hospice to host a charity Bluebell Walk.
Despite the disappointing Spring weather, over 100 people took part in the woodland walk, raising over £1,300 for this magnificent charity dedicated to people living with a life limiting illness.
Upon completion of their trek through the woods, walkers were welcomed back at the Manor House for an afternoon tea in the conservatory, and for those who endured the heaviest downfalls, a chance to dry out!
A social media post from the Pilgrims Hospice Ashford Fundraising team summed the day up;
‘Bilsington Priory, despite the heavy rain, has received much acclaim. A hot topic was the delicious scones, and the selection of amazing cakes, which included a yummie carrot cake. In between the showers, our guests explored the estate enjoying the woodland walk. We can’t thank Libby and her team enough and we have already talked about a date for 2025!’
In the language of flowers, the Bluebell is a symbol of humility, constancy, gratitude, and everlasting love. Very apt, we think, and epitomises the dedication, care, and values of Pilgrims Hospice.
